Adjudicator

Appointment of Adjudicator:
The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) require the provincial government to appoint an adjudicator as an independent officer of the Assembly. The adjudicator reports annually to the Speaker of the Assembly, who then presents the report to the House of the Assembly.

Role of the Adjudicator:
Following a reference from the Ombudsman, the adjudicator is required to hold a written or oral hearing and make an order on the issue referred. Types of orders that may be made can be found at FIPPA section 66.8 and PHIA section 48.8.

Adjudicator:
On December 2^nd, 2015, Mr. Jeffrey Schnoor, Q.C., was appointed, effective January 1^st, 2016, as adjudicator under The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and The Personal Health Information Act.

Former Adjudicator:
Mr. Ron Perozzo, Q.C., was appointed as Manitoba’s first adjudicator under The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and The Personal Health Information Act on October 20^th, 2010, effective on the same date, and served until December 31^st, 2015.
